Circulation of new “10 Cents” coin
The Central Bank of The Bahamas will issue into circulation on September 3, 2007, a newly designed ten cent coin. This coin represents the second denomination in the family of Bahamas circulation coins to be redesigned, following the release of the updated one cent coin in 2006.
The coat of the newly designed ten cent coin appears slightly less lustrous than that of its predecessor, due to a change in its metallic composition. The shape, size, and weight of the coin remain unchanged, however. The reverse of the coin boasts a more modern vignette of two bone fish swimming, while the front, bearing the Coat-of-Arms of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, remains unchanged.
The new coins will circulate along with the existing coins. Other denominations will be redesigned over time and released as their current stocks expire. A redesigned twenty-five cent coin is expected to be issued in 2008.
